Taurine

Taurine is a semi-essential amino acid that's not as well known as some other aminos like glutamine. However, taurine plays an important role and is found in the heart muscle, white blood cells, central nervous system, and skeletal muscle. It plays an important role in metabolism, and is essential for new borns, since they cannot make it. Adults bodies can make taurine, however, when not enough is made, the deficiency can be corrected by supplementation.

Vegetarians tend to be at risk for lower levels of L-Taurine because it is commonly found in food sources, such as meat and dairy products, which are not included in the vegetarian diet.

L-Taurine has also been used to treat conditions such as seizure disorders, cardiovascular diseases, epilipsy, alcoholism, cystic fibrosis, and alzheimers.

A double blind, placebo controlled crossover study involving 14 participants found that taurine is effective to treat heart failure with no adverse effects. Participants received 6g each day for four weeks. Each person was assigned a heart failure score based on signs of right heart failure, pulmonary sounds, and chest abnormalities. At the end of the study, the heart failure scores feel from 5.8 to 3.7 for the taurine group, and the score did not change for the placebo group.

Bodybuilders need the increase in blood flow for oxygen and nutrient delivery, and without adequate nitric oxide, this isn't possible, and when deficient in L Taurine, there is less nitric oxide production.

Individuals who are at risk for a deficiency of L-Taurine, include vegetarians and women of all ages. It is believed that women are more at risk for a L-Taurine deficiency, because of the presence of female hormones that restrict the production of L-Taurine within the body.

Leucine

Leucine is essential for growth, stimulates the production of muscle tissue, and protects the liver from the damaging affects of alcohol. Leucine is an essential amino acid, which cannot be manufactured in the body and is part of the three branched-chain-amino-acids. Leucine is a branched chain amino acid used as a source of energy. Leucine promotes healing of skin and broken bones. Leucine is necessary for the optimal growth of infants and for the nitrogen balance in adults. It appears to have no particular therapeutic role, but it is vital in supporting functions. 

Leucine lowers elevated blood sugar levels and is necessary in promoting the healing of bones, skin, and muscle tissue. Leucine is used as a source for the synthesis of blood sugar in the liver during starvation, stress, and infection to aid in healing. Leucine is a direct-acting nutrient signal that regulates protein synthesis in adipose tissue. Leucine is considered safe for general use. 

 People with depression, liver or kidney disease should avoid taking large amounts of leucine due to the changes of blood levels. Leucine may interfere with L-dopa, however, a medication used to control the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and should be used only under medical supervision in these patients.

Glucuronolactone

Glucuronolactone has been demonstrated to improve memory retention and concentration and act as an antidepressant and stimulant.
